The material is what makes this classic shirt truly special. With its coarse-woven, raw texture in pure cotton, it feels like wearing nature itself.

The Canvas is the classy shirt that’s rugged. Or the rugged shirt that’s classy. You decide. Whether you're dancing on the beach on a summer evening or attending a work seminar at a generic Thon hotel, you'll stand out in a classic, textured Canvas shirt.

The renowned Italian fabric producer Manteco has drawn inspiration from ancient Indian weaving techniques. Combined with cutting-edge technology, they have minimized the environmental impact of production as much as possible.

The shirt is 100% natural and biodegradable. Not just the fabric, but also the buttons, labels, and sewing thread are made from pure natural materials that have retained their completely natural color.

MATERIALS
This story is pretty cool. The main material is made from 70% recycled cotton and 30% organic cotton. It has a rugged woven texture and is completely undyed. (Dyeing is the biggest contributor to carbon emissions in clothing production.) The sewing thread is also cotton, which works because the main fabric is strong enough on its own. The buttons are made of Corozo, the nut from the Amazon that naturally falls from the tree and creates local jobs. Even all the labels (care label, logo, etc.) are made from undyed cotton.

In short: 100% natural and biodegradable.

At the same time, it’s tempting to call a garment with a "small" footprint sustainable, but we believe that would be misleading. The shirt does have an impact during production and through your use (washing). It only truly becomes more sustainable if you wear it for a very long time.

REINFORCEMENTS
A classic design is perhaps the most important factor in ensuring that The Canvas Shirt stays with you on adventures for many years. In addition, it is reinforced in key areas. The cuffs (the opening at the wrist) and elbows have double fabric. Both can be removed and replaced. The collar can also be unstitched and flipped if it becomes worn or stained. And of course, the elbow reinforcements are made from the same material as the rest of the shirt.

STAIN REMOVAL
Speaking of stains—white clothes get dirty. But this shirt has two advantages:

  • It’s not bright white but naturally white, so stains are less visible.
  • We’ve tested lemon soap for stain removal, and it works like a charm on this fabric.

Remember, if you get a stain, it's important to remove it as soon as possible.

PS: If you're about to dive into a plate of spaghetti with extra tomato sauce, we recommend draping the shirt over the back of your chair. It looks good there too!

STORE AND MICROFACTORY
Our store is not your typical shop. Sure, we sell clothes and make money from it, but can we do everything the opposite of what typical clothing stores do? Our goal is just as much about opening minds and showing that it's possible to do things in a completely different way, with a totally different footprint.

Visit us at Grünerløkka in Oslo (where Markveien crosses Korsgata) to try on clothes, share your input on new products, repair worn garments, see how your products are made, or just have a chat with one of us. More information about the store here. Read more about our store concept here.
