DEO STAINS
Deodorant stains under the arms are very common and just as annoying. A common but mistaken belief is that sweat causes these stains, but sweat is colorless. What creates the stains are aluminum-based chemicals in the deodorant that react with the body's natural oils and skin residues. When you wash the garment in the machine and the stains come into contact with detergent, this chemical reaction can actually make it even worse. And once the stains are there, unfortunately, they often become permanent.
Fortunately, there are methods to remove the stains. The following methods have proven to be very effective on our wool and silk garments:
DISH SOAP (ZALO) AND HAND WASHING
HOW TO:
1 – ADD WATER
Moisten the stains with some warm water. Do not use scalding water but warm enough to be comfortable for your hands.
2 – MASSAGE IN DISH SOAP
Drip drops of dish soap on the stains and massage the fabric between your fingers to dissolve the fats in the stains.
3 – NOT TOO HARD
The more friction, the better, but do not be too rough so that the fibers in the wool/silk garment do not get damaged.
4 – RINSE WELL
After a minute or two and good foaming, rinse well! Lift the garment up to the faucet's mouth and run water directly through it.
5 – RINSE AROUND THE AREA
Also, remember to rinse well in the area around where you just washed with dish soap so that any soap that has spread around the stains also disappears.
6 – LAY OUT TO DRY
Dry the garment lying flat, for example, on a drying rack. This way, you take better care of the wool fibers, and the garment does not stretch. (Always applies to wool wash)
7 – REPEAT IF NECESSARY
Such stains may not completely disappear after the first attempt, but then just go for another round.
APPLYING WATER AND ZALO
The t-shirt has been treated with water and dish soap. Now, the dish soap should be rubbed into the stain.
AFTER WASHING
This stain was stubborn. It took three rounds of dish soap and water before it came out.
BAKING SODA
You can also use baking soda (not baking powder as it can leave white stains on the garment).
1 – MAKE A PASTE
Create a paste by mixing baking soda with a little water.
2 – RUB IN
Rub into the stain and let it sit until the paste has dried, about an hour. You can occasionally rub the stain while the paste is drying.
3 – RINSE AND WASH
Rinse and wash as usual. Make sure to apply baking soda only to the stain to minimize discoloration of the rest of the garment.
USE OF DEODORANT
The best and most effective advice is to try to avoid stains in the first place. Some small steps that can help include using deodorant without aluminum salts, not putting on clothes until the deodorant is 100% dry, and not using unnecessary amounts of deodorant.
